To me the song is about a girl losing her innocence under a lilac tree and trying to re-capture it, grasping for a feeling that can be reached. Elkie sound like she got drunk and did something she regretts

Nina Simone’s is my personal favorite..then Jeff Buckley’s and then this one…good job.
