Looking in your past to figure out why you are the way your are now. Maybe what happened in the past caught up to you. I think all of us are flightless birds waiting for our wings. We all have American Mouths because some of us who witness a poor man on the streets or a person getting beat up, say nothing and walk by. anyway thats my interpretation. But its a beautiful song.

  17. it doesn’t really matters what was the interprertation of the writer at that moment cuz u will find tha the meaning for you is different and find that is the beuty of this song

  18. I take this as a depiction of a lifes journey that has finally realized its true being.

  19. Yeah… there are tons of interpretations. I wish they’d come out an officially explain what the writer was truly thinking when they wrote the lyrics. But it’s also kind of cool that they haven’t… the song means different things to different people. But it’d still be nice to know its true meaning.

  20. I think you are real close here but he’s painting a bigger picture of a bloated country (fat house cat) trying to come to terms (nursing my sore blunt tongue) with “how the Eff did we get to this point?” and “What can we salvage? Where do we go?”

  21. OMG, this song is godlike, can’t stop crying. Remembers me of the past good times.

  22. i like this song

  23. this is a wonderful song I’m glad I found it.
